Search Tips

Not every source is listed in this guide.  What follows are general tips for locating sources that go beyond the scope of this Guide.

  1. Subject search:  one can locate resources on specific topics via a subject search for topics like "appellate procedure," "briefs" or "oral pleading."
  2. Keyword search:  one can also execute a broader search for resources by simply searching the topic as a keyword(s).  For example: “Illinois AND appellate."
  3. Legal writing textbooks:  Almost all of the major legal writing texts have sections devoted to appellate advocacy which include pointers on and examples of briefs.  These are often a fruitful source for guidance.
