Research and Reference Services

The library provides a number of research and reference services that may be useful to you while you are working through your online course.

  • Research appointments - These meetings with reference librarians may be online or in person, at your preference, to help you find resources or answers for whatever problems you're working on in class. Schedule an appointment by clicking Request a Research Appointment on the left side of the library's home page.
  • Reference assistance - Reference librarians are also available, at the reference desk on the 6th floor, by chat, or at 312-427-2737 ext. 729, to direct you to helpful resources and answer any questions you might have.
  • Database access - You have access to a wide range of databases to aid you in our research through the library home page. Our articles databases primarily provide access to legal articles as well as articles from other disciplines. Our specialized databases provide access to supplemental lessons, current awareness resources, subject-specific tools, and more.
  • Research guides - Our research guides provide assistance in working through the research process in a variety of topics.
  • Video tutorials - These tutorials offer assistance on various topics including general research, writing, federal administrative law research, and international legal research.

Circulation Services and InterLibrary Loan

Distance education students are welcome to use and check out items from the print collection as well as use our interlibrary loan services. We do not, however, ship materials, so students must come to the library to pick up anything they would like to check out.

If an item you need is not in our collection, you may request it through the interlibrary loan (ILL) process. Our ILL process operates through WorldCat, a catalog that searches libraries across the globe, which is accessible from the library's home page. For more on ILL, please visit this FAQ page.
