Introduction

This guide is designed to help new students succeed in their first year of law school. It contains information about library resources & services including study guides, books, and online resources to help students prepare for class.

CALI Lessons

The Center for Computer Assisted Legal Instruction (CALI) provides more than 600 interactive computer-based tutorials to assist students in understanding a wide range of legal subjects. Stop by the reference desk for an authorization code if you have not yet registered for CALI. Some useful CALI materials follow below.

Study Guides

The Aspen Learning Library and LexisNexis Digital Library contain a wide range of digital study guides that are very helpful for first-year law students, as well as for upper-level courses and bar prep.

Important Library Information

For hours of operation with information regarding circulation and reference services, see the Law Library Initiatives page. Students may check out library materials with a UIC ID at the circulation desk on the 6th Floor. See the Circulation Services page for information on loan periods for library materials.

To reserve a law library study room, visit the Study Room Reservations page. Reservations are available one week in advance. Rooms 601 and 903 are designated first come, first served rooms.

To reserve a room study room on the 8th Floor Collaboration Commons, visit this page. Reservations are available one week in advance. Rooms 803, 817, and 818 are designated first come, first served.

For assistance with legal research questions, research strategies, print research, or legal databases questions, contact the UIC Law reference librarians via law-library@uic.edu or "Make an Appointment" via the online scheduler. Please book your appointment 48 business hours in advance. Alternatively, you can stop by the reference desk for immediate help with a quick research question.
